Toyota Just Produced The 10 Millionth Yaris After 25 Years Of Production
In its 25th year of production, the Toyota Yaris has become the automaker's sixth model to surpass 10 million global sales. Toyota's Yaris has long been a market leader in its segment, and the first model was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1998. The hatchback was named European Car of the Year in 2000, and it has remained popular in Europe ever since. In fact, of all the Yaris models sold worldwide, 5,155,506 were sold in Europe. Furthermore, in 2022, the Yaris accounted for more than one-third of Toyota's total European sales.
The first-generation model lasted until 2005, when it was replaced with an entirely new model. For its second generation, the car grew in size and was initially available with three engine options. The Yaris TS, a slightly more performance-oriented version with a 1.8-liter engine producing 130 hp, was introduced in 2006.
Toyota then really stepped up its game with the third-generation Yaris. This new model was the first in its class to offer a full hybrid powertrain. It grew in size and gave birth to Toyota Gazoo Racing's first road-going model, the Yaris GRMN.
Covers were removed from the fourth-generation Yaris in 2020. It has a more dynamic design than its predecessor, as well as being shorter, wider, and lower. It is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture GA-B platform and features more efficient engine options. The current model also gave rise to the Yaris GR hot hatch, and the range has since expanded with the introduction of the Yaris Cross SUV, which was recently named the 2022 World Urban Car in the World Car Awards.
