- 6-Year-Old Langkawi Boy’s Joyride Ends After Hitting Lamp Post
A 6-year-old boy drove a car for about 2.5 kilometres before losing control and colliding with a lamp post on Jalan Bukit Tangga in Langkawi, last night
According to Langkawi police chief Shariman Ashari, the boy only suffered cut to chin in the incident at around 11 p.m.
He stated that the boy was driving a Toyota Vios with his 3-year-old brother, who was unharmed in the crash. The two brothers attempted to drive the car to a store, with the older brother controlling the steering wheel and the younger brother controlled the pedals. "Police received a call from the public at 11.15pm regarding the incident," he said today in a statement. As a result of the incident, the front left side of the Vios was severely damaged. Fortunately, no one was hurt or killed when the car crashed. The authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding this incident.
According to Shariman, preliminary investigation revealed that the boy had driven the car from his home in Kg Padang Mengkuang without his parents' knowledge. The boys had sneaked out of their house while their mother was in the bathroom and their father was sleeping, according to the island's top cop.
He added that the case was being looked into under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act of 1987 and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act of 2001.
