L-R: There are the new Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider lightweight trackday specials.

Notably, both the SF90 XX models are the first road-going Ferraris to feature a fixed rear wing since the F50.

Ferrari sees its extreme XX-series range grow this week following the debut of the new Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale and Spider duo. Notably, unlike past XX specials that were all track-only offerings, both the coupe and open-top lightweight trackday specials are street-legal offerings than can be driven on public roads.

Both continue to harness the base Ferrari SF90 model’s 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo and tri-motor setup. The V8 alone serves up 786 HP, thus marking an improvement over the base car’s 769 HP figure. The electric motors and 9.98 kWh battery it’s paired with, on the other hand, also improves over the base car’s 217 HP output to contribute a further 228 HP. Combined, there’s now a whopping 1,015 HP in play.

Extensive aero revisions aren't just for show as they provide more downforce over the base SF90.

Much of this stems from the combustion mill’s adoption of new pistons, specific machining for its combustion chamber, and polished inlet and exhaust ducts. Also, the intake plenum tube is now positioned closer to the cabin bulkhead, whilst the secondary air system is eliminated to shed 3.5 KG.

Drive is managed by an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with revised software plus added noise during shifts and high-rev throttle lift-offs. It also grants quicker 0-100 KM/H sprint times of 2.3 seconds and 320 KM/H V-max in both the Stradale and Spider. Like the base SF90, full-electric drive is possible, but this ability sees no changes to its claimed 25 KM range and 135 KM/H top speed.

The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 PHEV setup now delivers a whopping 1,015 HP to allow 0-100 KM/H in 2.3 seconds.

Oily bits aside, the SF90 XX sees its chassis strengthened with upgraded brakes in the form of redesigned front calipers with improved cooling, as well rear rotors upsized from 360 MM to 390 MM. All are tied to a new ABS EVO controller too that works with a 6W-CDS sensor that estimates of the vehicle's speed to  calculate proper braking distribution.

The extreme trackday redux continues with the aerodynamics. It sees both the SF90 XX Stradale and Spider benefit with larger front splitters, redesigned underbody, new ducts in both the hood and each side of the bumper, wheel arch vents, revised main intakes with new engine cover inlets, as well as a prominent new fixed rear wing – the first in a road-going Ferrari since the F50, in fact.

All these aero tweaks promises highly improved downforce over the base SF90. Ferrari claims the revised body aero alone generates up to 530 KG of downforce, whilst the redesigned underbody produces 45 KG more of said downforce too, both at 250 KM/H.

Changes on board are minimal, notable tweaks being the repositioned gear selector, new single-piece seats, and richer use of both Alcantara upholstery and carbon fibre trims.

On board, the SF90 XX duo sees minor tweaks given to their respective cabins, which feature richer use of Alcantara upholstery and carbon fibre trims. Also, the gear selector is now positioned further forward, whilst the seats appear to be new single-piece designs featuring elastic trims connecting the upper and lower sections to allow backrest adjustment.

The big difference between the Stradale and Spider of course lies in the latter’s offer of wind-in-hair thrills thanks to the retractable hard-top assembly it is primed with. Likely unchanged from the base SF90 Spider, this mechanism transforms this trackday special from coupe to open-top berlinetta in just 14 seconds.

Open-top SF90 XX Spider stands as the rarer of the two with just 599 units planned, each costing €850,000.

Like any XX-series special, availability will be limited to just 799 hardtop units alongside 599 open-top units. The former is priced from €770,000 (approx. RM 3,909,550) whilst its open-top twin matches its rarity with a princelier €850,000 (approx. RM 4,315,736) figure instead.

Predictably, like past XX-series offering, Ferrari has reportedly sold out all units of the SF90 XX duo before revealing them this week.
