Malaysia’s Top Leisure Karters Heads For SWS International Finals 2023 In Slovakia
Leisure kart competitions like the SWS Sprint Cup Malaysia are literally low-cost, 'arrive & drive' affairs.
In case you didn’t know, leisure karting is indeed a thing. In fact, competition here can get pretty serious as any other sanctioned karting series or championship would. The only difference? Leisure karting costs significantly less as competitors don’t necessarily have to own the karts or professional gear to compete.
In fact, ‘arrive & drive’ leisure kart competitions like the Sodi World Series (SWS) Sprint Cup Malaysia, organised by Amprex Circuit Sdn Bhd at its new Morac Go Kart Track in 1Utama, Petaling Jaya, only requires its competitors to show up on raceday and pay their entry fees before competing. Additionally, this series is open to Malaysian citizens ages 15 years and up.
Organised by Amprex Circuit Sdn Bhd, the SWS Sprint Cup Malaysia series is held at the firm's new Morac Go Kart Track located in 1Utama, Petaling Jaya.
It’s also pretty big globally, as proven by the existence of the SWS International Finals. Organised by French kart makers Sodikart, it’s where national SWS Sprint Cup champions from all over the world meet up and compete for top honours.
For this year’s edition, which takes places in Slovakia from July 5 to July 8, Malaysia is represented by two drivers in two separate categories.
L-R: Leona Chin and Jason Siew, champions of the SWS Women's Cup Malaysia 2022 and SWS Sprint Cup Malaysia 2022 respectively.
Leading the duo is Jason Siew, who will race in the SWS Sprint Cup International Finals field of 90 drivers. Prior to this, Jason was crowned SWS Sprint Cup Malaysia 2022 champion, having earned his title through relentless determination and unwavering dedication.
“I’m very excited to see where I stack up against some of the best leisure karters of the world! Should the opportunity allow it, I will also try to place as high up the in standings as I can,” said Jason when we asked his thoughts ahead of the finals mentioned in a special press conference held last weekend.
Both Jason and Leona are vying to do Malaysia proud at the SWS Sprint Cup International Finals 2023 taking place next month in Slovakia.
Also representing Malaysia in the SWS Women’s International Cup 2023 category is Leona Chin. Already a household name in the local scene, Leona’s entry into this year’s SWS Women’s Cup International Finals follow up from her efforts to take the SWS Women’s Cup Malaysia title last year.
In her category, Leona will face off against a field of 30 other ladies who’ve also won their respective national SWS Women’s Cup series. “I’m excited to race against other ladies like me from around the world! Hopefully, I can also make Malaysia proud in this avenue,” said Leona in the same press conference.
Winners of the most recent SWS Sprint Cup Malaysia 2023 round held last weekend at Morac Go Kart Circuit 1Utama with senior management of Amprex Circuit Sdn Bhd.
Whilst both Jason and Leona have already secured their spots to race in this year’s edition of the SWS International Finals, Malaysia’s representatives in said challenge for 2024 remains up for contest.
