For the time being, the Finance Ministry has no plans to provide income tax relief to disabled (OKU) in the B40 and M40 categories who purchased motor vehicles, according to Bernama.
“The proposal needs to be studied thoroughly,” said Deputy Finance II Steven Sim Chee Keong during the question and answer session at Dewan Negara on Thursday, June 22.
He stated that the government has provided a full exemption on vehicle excise duty for all individuals with disabilities and physical disabilities who are able to drive, provided the applicant is registered with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), has a valid driving licence and the vehicle cannot be sold or transferred for five years. Every OKU may purchase one vehicle with an excise exemption every five years. image.png

He was responding to Senator Isaiah Jacob's question about the government's proposal to provide income tax rebates for motor vehicle purchases under RM45,000 for the B40 and M40 target groups.

According to Steven Sim, the current tax relief is adequate to alleviate the burden of the disabled in the B40 and M40 categories.

"However, the government will always review and improve existing taxation policy from time to time in line with the economic environment," he said.
