Volvo Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Volvo Trucks) is making tremendous efforts to meet its aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Volvo Trucks is installing solar panels at its Shah Alam and Kuantan properties with an RM3.14 million investment, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions within its operational network by 50% by 2025.

Sustainability, according to Volvo Trucks Malaysia's Managing Director, Anthony O'Connell, is at the heart of their corporate operations. This approach is consistent with Volvo Group's goal of achieving net-zero emissions across their whole product line and supply chain by 2050. It also symbolises Malaysia's collective efforts to minimise CO2 emissions and build a sustainable future.

Volvo Trucks' investment in solar panels illustrates the company's commitment to sustainability and lowering its carbon impact. The facilities, which will take advantage of Malaysia's favourable meteorological conditions, are estimated to offset around 11,925 tonnes of carbon emissions over a 25-year period. This is a substantial contribution to climate change mitigation.

Micro Energy Holding Sdn Bhd has been picked by Volvo Trucks as its solar panel supplier, installer, and maintenance contractor. With solar energy covering 95% of the power supply for the Shah Alam property and 98% of the power supply for Kuantan, any excess energy will be recycled back into the grid, helping to more sustainable energy usage. The programme will result in a reduction of roughly 477 tonnes of carbon emissions, which is comparable to a 35% reduction from 2019 levels.

This investment in solar energy infrastructure also serves as a foreshadowing of Volvo Trucks' aspirations to deliver electrified trucks in Malaysia. The corporation will invest in electric vehicle (EV) chargers, beginning with the installation at its Shah Alam headquarters. Volvo Trucks is ready to supply comprehensive electromobility solutions in the future by developing the infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The signing event between Anthony O'Connell and Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr Abdul Aziz bin Haji Jaafar marked the official appointment of Micro Energy as Volvo Trucks' solar energy partner. Amos Ganeson, Managing Director of Micro Energy, attended the event, as did officials from Longi Solar, Dennis Kwok, General Manager of South East Asia, and David Chiu, Malaysia Country Manager.

Volvo Trucks Malaysia's investment in solar energy represents a significant step towards the company's environmental goals and contributing to a greener world. They are not only decreasing their carbon impact but also laying the groundwork for the future of electric mobility solutions in Malaysia by adopting renewable energy sources.
