image.png Children being improperly transported in vehicles is a fairly common sight in Malaysia. Many parents do not bother buckling up behind because the decision to make the use of child car seats mandatory in Malaysia is still under review.
According to the latest announcement by the government, the use of child car seats in vehicles is still being studied. Despite the fact that its use became mandatory in January 2020, the ruling was never implemented because, after a six-month grace period, it was announced in July that enforcement would be postponed indefinitely.
Although there is still no plan to implement the enforcement,  the subject has not been forgotten. According to Harian Metro, the Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah stated that the government is still committed to seeing the ruling implemented, but will study the issue for the time being. image.png

One of the most important issues to look out for before the implementation is  using child car seats in scenarios involving large families.
For the record, the government was considering exempting families with four or five children from using child restraint system (CRS) devices because it would be difficult to fit that many seats in a vehicle.
For the time being, Hasbi stated that the ministry will continue to focus on an advocacy approach to educate the public on the topic, emphasising the importance of using CRS through safety campaigns.

According to the statistics released by the police, 1,252 cases of fatal accidents in Malaysia involving children aged 10 and under were reported from 2012 to 2021. image.png
CDC reported that car seat use reduces the risk for injury in a crash by 71–82% for children, when compared with seat belt use alone.
Here's a quick guide to which car seat to consider at each stage of your child's development:

71-100cm: forward-facing infant car seat

<100cm: booster seat + 5 point harness

>135cm: booster seat + seatbelt
