- Government Looking Into ID System For Targeted Fuel Subsidy
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) is currently considering the implementation of a dedicated identification (ID) system for the purchase of subsidised RON 95 petrol and diesel, according to Bernama.
This initiative coincides with the upcoming launch of the Main Database (PADU), which will facilitate targeted subsidy implementation beginning next year and expected to be completed by year's end.
"The use of ID for the purchase of subsidised fuel will assist KPDN in controlling purchases and curbing smuggling of subsidised petrol and diesel," KPDN Deputy Minister Fuziah Saleh told reporters in Tanjung Mas, Kelantan.
PADU facilitates the implementation of targeted petrol subsidies. Previously, each ministry maintained its own database.
Fuziah emphasised that data from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) are required for targeted petrol subsidies. "By consolidating data from these two agencies, we can accurately identify those who are truly eligible for the respective subsidies," she said, according to Berita Harian. PADU is also a department of the Malaysian Department of Statistics (DOSM).
