Transport Minister, Anthony Loke stated that JPJ director-general Rospiagos Taha issued a directive to the branches stating that physical road tax would not be issued beginning August 1 this year and that customers should renew their road tax online using the MyJPJ application.

According to The Star, Loke clarified that the road tax sticker is still being issued. "Several branches ran out of stock and posted a sign indicating that physical road tax was not available, but this is not a policy decision." We acted quickly after learning that branches were out of stock and ordered new stock," he said yesterday.
"The road tax sticker is still in circulation." Several branches ran out of stock and posted a notice about the lack of physical road tax, but this was not a policy decision. We acted quickly when we discovered that branches were out of stock and will continue to order new supplies," he emphasised.

Loke also stated that the Transport Ministry has yet to set a deadline for the full transition to digital road tax, and vehicle owners can continue to use the physical sticker.

“But there will come a time when we will transform to fully digital. No decision has been made yet; it would take six months to one year before going fully digital,” he added.
Loke said according to JPJ, only 30 per cent of vehicle owners have opted for the digital road tax.
For the record, he had previously announced that beginning February 10, 2023, private vehicle owners would no longer be required to display the road tax on their vehicles and could instead use the digital mode.

He claims that digitalization will reduce congestion at JPJ offices and counters by up to 80% and save RM96 million per year in sticker and card costs.

Every month, it is estimated that 1.5 million vehicles must renew their road tax.
