Ford has secretly updated its iconic blue-oval logo, first seen on the newly-updated F-150 truck

Amongst the many car brand emblems, Ford’s legendary blue-oval emblem is got to be one of the most iconic and easily recognisable of the bunch. However, during the launch of the updated Ford F-150 truck at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show 2023, it seems that the American automaker has secretly updated its iconic emblem, featuring cleaner and simpler design.

Updated for the first time in two decades, Ford’s new logo features the same iconic fundamental design as the old one, albeit with a slight tweak that is unnoticeable at a glance. For starters, the ‘Ford’ script has been enlarged and redesigned, with the thin pinstripe that is placed within the wider stripe that engulfs the letter has been deleted, allowing said script to appear larger than before.

Aside from being thinner and larger, said ‘Ford’ script is also draped in new colourway, with the old chrome lettering and striping being replaced by a simpler white shade. Speaking of colour change, the blue oval surround also gets a darker blue hue, providing a better and cleaner contrast to the white lettering.

Similar to the recently-revised Porsche emblem, Ford’s effort to lightly update its logo is lauded by many, as the automaker manages to retain the iconic aspect of its logo, which explains why the last update on this legendary badge took place two decades ago.

Beyond the two-decade mark, Ford’s iconic blue-oval logo can trace its roots all the way back in 1927, where it was first introduced and used on the Ford Model A. Almost a century later, the Ford blue-oval logo is now one of the most coveted and recognisable emblems in the global automotive society.

While the reworked emblem is already making its way to the facelifted F150 pick-up truck, it remains unclear whether this new badge will make its way to other existing Ford models. But we’d reckon a simple job of swapping an old badge with a new one would be a very simple job for Ford to do, though we suspect the automaker might reserve them for newer models.
