- Four Sections Of West Coast Expressway Expected To Be Ready Next Year
WCE Holdings Bhd expects the four sections of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) currently under construction to be completed by the end of its current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2024, The Star reported.
When all four are finished, they will link Section 1 with the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Section 2 with the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), Section 6 with the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR), and Section 11 with the North-South Expressway (PLUS).
Meanwhile, sections 3, 4, and 7 are also expected to be completed by the fiscal year 2025.
WCE Holdings Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Alfred Felix anticipates increased traffic flow as a result of the four new sections' opening.
Lyndon anticipates an increase in medium to long-distance users as well as an increase in commercial vehicles, as congestion on the PLUS highway will also play a significant role in diverting road users to WCE.
He stated that since its inception in 2019, the four operational sections have recorded impressive traffic numbers, averaging between 50,000 and 60,000 vehicles per day, representing a 65 percent increase over the previous fiscal year.
Lyndon added that 99.9 percent of the land acquisition for the entire project has been completed to date.
For the record, this build-operate-transfer privatisation project entails the construction of a 320-kilometer (km) highway, including 83 kilometres of toll-free sections on Federal Route 5, which has been upgraded by the Public Works Department, connecting the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia from Banting, Selangor, to Taiping, Perak.
