- Gentari ICOM Square, Kuching Now Open - 180kW DC Charger, Fastest In Borneo!
Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging network into Sarawak in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd.
Gentari's initial charging stations in the state would be strategically positioned at ICOM Square in Kuching, a popular location with easy access to malls, restaurants, and business buildings. This EV charging station is also conveniently positioned on the street level, complete with roofed shading, for the convenience of electric vehicle owners who want to charge their vehicles at any time of day, rain or shine.
The ICOM Square charging station would have two DC chargers, one 180kW and one 50kW. The 180kW device is outfitted with a 2-gun configuration capable of charging two EVs at the same time but take note power delivery when both the charging guns are in use is halved to 90kW per-gun. As for the 50kW unit, it is a pretty straightforward single gun DC charging setup.
With the introduction of the Gentari ICOM EV charging station, EV users in Kuching will now have access to the fastest and greatest capacity public charging station in Borneo. All charging in the ICOM station would be FREE for the time being as a trial period basis.
In addition, EV owners would need to download the Setel or JomCharge mobile app in order to gain access to the charging sessions. Furthermore, based on some digging by CariCarz, we believe that beginning in October, all charging sessions will be charged most likely on a time-based calculation instead of kWh.
The Gentari ICOM EV charging was launched at the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum 3.0 (SAREF 3.0), Sarawak Energy’s flagship event. According to Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy CEO of Gentari and CEO of Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, “The launch of Gentari's inaugural EV fast charging station in Kuching marks a pivotal stride in advancing the EV infrastructure across Sarawak and is first of many to come, towards building range confidence making the transition to EVs an appealing one.”
Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili, Group Chief Executive Officer, Sarawak Energy meanwhile added, “Sarawak Energy is pleased to introduce Borneo's fastest public EV Charger in partnership with Gentari. This marks the beginning of our commitment to build a network of EV chargers across Sarawak, connecting major towns and cities starting here in Kuching and crossing the Pan Borneo Highway for an anxiety free journey."
