- Sarawak Energy Expands EV Fleet to Boost Sustainable Mobility
Sarawak Energy has added eight new BYD electric vehicles (EVs) to its corporate fleet, reinforcing its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting Sarawak’s sustainable energy goals.
The handover ceremony, held on 13 Sept 2024 at Menara Sarawak Energy, marked a key step in the company's efforts to "green the grid and electrify the fleet."
Sarawak Energy’s CEO, Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili, highlighted that the EVs not only reduce the company’s carbon footprint but also promote wider EV adoption in line with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030.
Since starting its fleet electrification in 2015 with Nissan Leaf EVs, the company has expanded to include electric scooters and hydrogen-powered Hyundai Nexo SUVs, positioning Sarawak as a regional leader in sustainable mobility.
To further support the transition, Sarawak Energy is working with key partners, including the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), to build a comprehensive EV charging network across the state.
In 2023, Sarawak Energy in collaboration with Gentari launched Sarawak’s fastest public EV charging station, a 180kW DCFC in Kuching.
