smart--1-preview-Caricarz-(7)-full_normal.jpg According to the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the government will concentrate on developing the electric vehicle (EV) sector, a high-impact sub-sector.

To support the expansion of the sector, policies relating to EVs will be reviewed on a regular basis, according to deputy minister of investment, trade, and industry Liew Chin Tong.

The EV market is brand-new. In response to a query from Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) about EV ownership being out of reach for the majority of Malaysians as well as initiatives to promote EV usage, he said today in the Dewan Rakyat that there would be a National EV Steering Committee (NEVSC) meeting soon.

Bernama reported that the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes for EV will start in 2024, according to Liew, who earlier concluded the discussion on the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review.

According to him, the government is now focusing on the development of talent for EV technology, and the NEVSC has the responsibility of ensuring the availability of higher education facilities for producing EV talent.

“Following that, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia has been appointed as a NEVTF (National Electric Vehicle Task Force) member to coordinate research and talent development related to EV technology among local universities,” he said.

Liew added that the National Skills Employment Standard for EV in TVET education and training has been developed by the Human Resource Ministry's Skills Development Department in collaboration with the Industry Lead Body.
