- Mercedes-Benz Reveals New MBUX Update – Now with Dolby Atmos
Mercedes-Benz has updated its MBUX infotainment suite via an extensive over-the-air (OTA) software update rollout. Affecting over 700,000 vehicles worldwide, this new update – known as the MBUX Entertainment Update 2.4 – will see the marque’s bespoke infotainment system getting a slew of new features, including the Dolby Atmos surround sound technology.
New Dolby Atmos surround sound system promises a more immersive audio experience
The new Dolby Atmos surround sound system promises a more immersive stereo sound experience for passengers, adding more space, clarity, and depth that were unnoticeable before. This system works well with premium streaming apps like Apple Music, while support on other music streaming platforms will be made available later.
New Mercedes-Benz models like the EQS will get updated Voice Assistance system and new apps
In addition to the new sound system, this new update also adds improvements over existing features such as enhancements on the MBUX’s built-in Voice Assistance system, while new apps like NewsFlash and YouTube Web will be available on selected new models equipped with the Entertainment Package Plus like the S-Class, EQE, and EQS.
With this updated Voice Assistance system, passengers and drivers can select the infotainment features and app with the “Hey Mercedes” voice command, thus preventing drivers from putting their focus away from driving. Meanwhile the addition of NewsFlash allows Mercedes-Benz users to listen to newscasts on various topics, ranging from general news, business, culture, and many more.
Apart from that, this OTA update also grants the MBUX’s front passengers’ Hyperscreen displays on models like the EQE and EQS with dynamic content, while photo personalisation is also now allowed. More importantly, this update also sees the MBUX’s built-in sat-nav system to get a much-needed update like access to Place Details feature by Google, where it provides users with additional information for more than 200 million locations worldwide, including business hours, photos, ratings, and reviews.
Newer Mercedes-Benz models like the AMG-EQE and second-gen GLC are poised to get this update
The latest MBUX update is set to be rolled out globally beginning from September this year, where over 700,000 Mercedes-Benz cars will be affected. As for the details on which specific models will be getting this update, or which apps and features will be made available in Malaysia, we’ll have to wait for an official statement from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia…
