Honda has reinvented the wheel once again today, as the Japanese marque debuts its latest e-scooter model, known as the Honda Motocompacto. Inspired by the Honda Motocompo folding scooter from the 80s, the new Motocompacto has got all the chops and styling as its predecessor, now with a better all-electric drive.

Unlike many other Honda e-scooters we’ve seen before, the Motocompacto is touted as a perfect, emission-free ‘first and last mile’ transport solution that is “designed for the new realities of urban mobility.”

Designed and developed by Honda USA's engineering teams in Ohio and California, the Motocompacto comes with ample comfort support for its rider. This  includes things like the cushion seat, foldable foot rests, small on-board storage, as well as basic riding equipment like a digital speedometer with charging gauge and adjustable handles.

The Motocompacto can be folded into a compact 'luggage' with a carry handle

Once fully-folded, the Motocompacto’s rectangular and compact package with a built-in carry handle allows it to be stored or carried with relative ease, as the whole package only weighs about 18.3 KG. In spite of its compact size, Honda says that the Motocompacto can support up to 120 KG of passenger’s weight

Plenty of personalisation options will be offered to the Motocompacto e-scooter soon

As for the tech bits, the Motocompacto comes with Bluetooth connectivity and an upcoming dedicated smartphone app, allowing them to be paired with your smartphones to unlock more settings of the e-scooter. Aside from the scooter itself, Honda is also planning to release a full line-up of Motocompacto accessories, which includes exclusive decals for the scooter, riding gears like helmets and riding apparels, as well as several lifestyle accessories.

Unlike many e-scooters or motorbikes, the Motocompato gets a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout

As for its performance, the Motocompacto is powered by a front-mounted-and-driven (FWD) permanent magnet electric motor, with a total system output of 490 W (0.66 HP) and 16 NM, with a maximum speed of 24 KM/H – which only takes the Motocompacto about 7 seconds to reach. It is juiced by a 6.8-Ah battery pack that can be fully-charged in about 3.5 hours via a 110-volt socket, granting the Motocompacto with a maximum EV range of 19 KM.

While there are many other e-scooters that boast better performance, such output figures are more than enough to make the Honda Motocompacto a viable last-mile transportation solution, especially for those who are commuting using public transportations and for manoeuvring in densely populated areas like city streets and college campuses area.

Unfortunately, the Honda Motocompacto is only available in the US, for now...

Currently, the Honda Motocompacto e-scooter is a US-only affair, with orders set to be opened via Honda Motocompacto’s dedicated website or any nearby Honda and Acura dealers nationwide. With a retail price tag of US$995 (RM4,660), there may be other cheaper and more ‘practical’ options on the market, but we reckon nothing will carry the same swag and style as the Honda Motocompacto here.
