National oil and gas giant Petronas and its green energy subsidiary Gentari ink a new collaboration agreement with Amazon and its Amazon Web Services (AWS). The agreement was announced this week and will see both parties teaming up for a number of sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives.

This collaboration reflects a “comprehensive approach towards sustainability, technological advancement, and socio-economic progress,” says Gentari CEO Sushil Purohit via a press statement issued today. Together, both parties seek to explore potentials across several areas.

Gentari is set to provide EVs and fleet management services for Amazon's third party deliver partners in India via this agreement.

Key to which is the decarbonisation of Amazon’s transportation network in India by working with third party delivery services and further electrify their fleet. Amazon has committed to deploy 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) for its India delivery fleet by 2024, and Gentari is set to provide these EVs plus accompanying fleet management services for Amazon’s third party delivery partners.

Besides that, Petronas and AWS are set to explore design and construction of advanced future plants primed with cutting-edge tech, robotics, and automation solutions a la Amazon’s renowned warehouses and facilities. This will scale existing research and development efforts by Petronas for the potential production of microalgae oils serving as feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel.

Additionally, AWS will continue upskilling technical and non-technical Petronas staff to bolster their digital literacy via AWS Training & Certification programmes.
