- smart #3 Debuts in Europe With Special 25th Anniversary Variant
After making its first public appearance and Chinese market entry at the Auto Shanghai 2023 motor show, the all-new smart #3 EV SUV finally made its European debut at the IAA Mobility 2023 auto show in Munich. Aside from the standard three variants, the EU-spec #3 also gets a special 25th Anniversary Edition trim level to commemorate the brand’s quarter-century birthday.
The new smart #3 stood as a bulkier and sportier version of the smart #1 compact EV SUV
Slotted above the smart #1, the smart #3 stood as a larger model of the two, while featuring a sporty coupe-SUV silhouette. Aside from its bulkier facade and sportier silhouette, both the #1 and #3 looks pretty much identical, featuring several similar styling cues like the familiar-looking LED headlights design with unique Y-shaped DRL signatures, the Mercedes-esque LED taillights with full-width LED bar, and many more.

Similar to the Chinese-bound ones, the EU-spec smart #3 starts with the two baseline variants – the Pro+ and Premium – both powered by the same rear-mounted (RWD) single electric motor rated at 268 HP (200 kW). Meanwhile the range-topping Brabus edition gets peppier dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup rated at 422 HP (315 kW), capable of propelling this EV SUV from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.7 seconds.
Just like its smaller siblings, the smart #1, all smart #3 variants underpin the same Geely’s SEA platform with a 66-kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) battery pack stored within it. This battery pack grants the RWD variants of the smart #3 with a maximum EV range of 455 KM (WLTP), while the peppier AWD model gets a slightly lower EV range of 435 KM. At a maximum 150 kW DC charging rate, said battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The European markets will get a special smart #3 25th Anniversary Edition variant
As we mentioned earlier, the Euro-bound smart #3 will get a special 25th Anniversary Edition variant. Based on the top-specced Brabus trim level, the 25th anniversary special gets a slew of special touches, including upgraded LED headlights, a slew of red accents, while the cabin gets several 25th Anniversary commemorative badging, special two-tone leather seats with integrated headrests, panoramic galaxy roof, and many more.
Aside from those things, both the Brabus and 25th Anniversary models are also primed with several premium tech amenities. Key highlights include the massive 12.8-inch infotainment display supplemented with a smaller 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch head-up display (HUD), as well as a 13-speaker Beats premium hi-fi system. Meanwhile, the Brabus model gets special two-tone leather seats with the Brabus logo embroidered on the headrests.
The smart #3 compact coupe EV SUV will go on sale in Europe by the end of this year, with deliveries expected to commence some time in Q1 2024. While pricing details are yet to be finalised by smart, we can expect them to be somewhat similar to its prices in the Chinese market, perhaps with a lightweight premium slapped onto it.
With the smart #3 already making its debut in both European and Chinese markets, would you be keen to see this coupe EV SUV make its way into our local market? And if so, how much would you think smart Malaysia (PRO-NET) should price this sporty EV SUV? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
