- Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory Achieves Milestones With 2M EVs Produced
Tesla Inc.'s Gigafactory in Shanghai has reached a new production milestone. As of today, the factory has produced 2 million vehicles, according to Tesla's Asia handle on X. The post was accompanied by a photograph of the factory team posing with the model in their midst.
Tesla's Shanghai gigafactory is the only one in China, or Asia, for that matter. Tesla's factory produces Model 3 and Y vehicles for both the domestic Chinese market and for export to other countries.
The first vehicles were released from the factory in 2019. It took 33 months for the company to scale production and produce its millionth vehicle. It only took 13 months to make another million. “The increase in Tesla’s production speed is inseparable from the superior business environment in Shanghai, especially the Lin-gang special area of the Shanghai pilot free trade zone,“ said Song Gang, senior director of manufacturing at Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai.

Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai delivered more than 600,000 vehicles in the first eight months of this year, exceeding the total number achieved in 2021. It has evolved into a global export hub for Tesla, whose vehicles are now popular in Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America.
