- Next-Gen BMW X2 M35i Teased Ahead of Oct 11 Debut
The BMW X2 is entering a next-gen phase this month, following several teasers of this upcoming new coupe SUV crossover model. Ahead of its planned debut later in Oct 11, BMW has decided to tease us a little bit more, this time unveiling the souped-up M35i guise of the next-gen X2 model.
This new video teaser unveils the next-gen X2 M35i's front grille design up close
Published via BMW M’s official YouTube channel, this 19-second teaser trailer reveals bits and pieces of the upcoming X2 M35i model. At the start, you’ll notice that the X2’s front kidney grille is donned with the M logo. From here, you’ll also notice the illuminated front grille design, which seems sharper and slimmer compared to what we saw on the X2’s less sporty twin – the BMW X1.
Said video teaser continues to show the next-gen X2’s front hood emblem, which sits on an indented portion of the hood between the two raised areas. Aside from that, we can also see the new X2 M35i boasts a pretty sporty side mirror design, finished in gloss black that contrasts with the body’s blue paint job. Speaking of which, said blue colour looks close to the BMW M’s signature Portimao Blue colourway – not a big surprise since this teased model is an M-badged car to begin with.
Aside from X4-esque roofline, the new X2 M35i also gets M3-style rear bumper accent
More importantly, we’ve also got a glimpse of the new X2’s rakish roofline, featuring a gloss black-hued rear wing bolted on its tailgate. Completing the sporty M treatment is the prominent lower rear bumper accent the new X2 M35i gets, with a dual tailpipe nestled between it.
While said video teaser does not reveal any performance bits of the new X2 M35i, fortunately BMW has put up a dedicated teaser website for this sporty crossover model. From there, we’ve been told that the X2 M35i will have a total system output of 296 HP, garnering it a 0-100 KM/H sprint time finish of 5.4 seconds.
It appears that the X1 M35i is a peppier model of the two, boasting a total system output of 321 HP & 400 NM
This is quite intriguing, as we’ve known its less-sporty sibling – the BMW X1 M35i – boasts a higher total system output of 312 HP and 400 NM, provided by a familiar 2.0-litre TwinPower 4-cyl turbo mill. This setup is enough to propel the X1 M35i from nought to 100 KM/H in a faster 5.2 seconds.
Prior to this short video teaser, BMW initially teased the next-gen X2 via its social media page, followed by another teaser revealed via a popular online video game Fortnite. From both teasers, we’ve got to know about the new X2’s illuminated front grille and similar headlights signature as the X1, but more importantly its coupe SUV body style akin to its bigger siblings, the X4 and X6.
The next-gen BMW X2 M35i is poised to make its global debut later in Oct 11, though we can’t be sure whether it’ll be displayed alongside other iterations of the X2, most notably being its all-electric guise, the iX2.
