- Next-Gen Mitsubishi Pajero Rendered Based On Latest Spyshots
It seems Japanese automaker Mitsubishi is set to produce a successor to its signature 4x4 SUV offering known to us Malaysians as the Pajero.
Also marketed using the ‘Montero’ or ‘Shogun’ nameplates depending on market, camouflaged prototypes for which were reportedly spotted undergoing road tests in Europe recently.

With that as a reference, renowned local automotive digital render artist Chin Swee Hoe, or better known by his ‘Theophilus Chin’ and ‘@theottle’ online monikers, was recently commissioned to render the upcoming new SUV.
For this render, Chin had used the rivalling Nissan Patrol as a base, presumably due to its closeness in size. On top of which, Chin also incorporated elements from the recently revealed Destinator made-for-ASEAN three-row crossover SUV.

As a refresher, the Destinator was revealed by Mitsubishi online ahead of last week’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2025 where it was shown publicly for the first time too.
Said new offering underpins the also made-for-ASEAN XForce compact crossover SUV. It even harnesses the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl MIVEC turbo petrol mill, albeit with heightened outputs of 161 HP and 250 NM.

Back to Chin’s latest Pajero render and, interestingly, sources online speculate that the eventual production version of the prototypes sighted could adopt a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup underneath. However, this greatly depends on what platform it underpins.
Regarding platform, there are also further speculations that this upcoming new Pajero model could underpin the CMF-C/D architecture base as the Outlander. This platform design is more accommodating of a PHEV setup versus a traditional ladder frame.

Even if the automaker elects to retain a ladder frame base similar to its latest Triton pick-up truck, the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel mill it is paired with is also expected to gain added electrification at some point – it could perhaps mirror the rivalling Toyota Hilux MHEV here, in fact.
Speculations aside, firm details are expected soon enough as an official launch for this new SUV is expected sometime before the end of this year. In the meantime, what do you folks think about Chin’s latest vision of a new Pajero 4x4 SUV then?
By the way, you can also get to know the renowned man behind the render in a recent episode of the Tekan Habis podcast where this writer had the pleasure of interviewing Chin as a guest. You can watch the episode below too.
