The proposal to grant toll exemption in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration this weekend is still in the process of being discussed, as informed during a session at the Dewan Rakyat.

Responding to a question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad was asked about the government's intentions regarding providing toll exemption for Deepavali.

A number of factors, including cost-sharing with highway concessionaires, are being looked into, according to Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. He accepted that numerous honourable members, including Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, had brought forward the concept of a toll fee exemption.

Maslan also indicated that talks over a toll exemption are still underway. He was hopeful, stating that when the government is prepared to make an announcement, he might have some good news to offer in the next two or three days. Abdul Rahman did, however, stress that the Ministry of Finance's clearance would be required before any official pronouncement on the subject could be made.
