Proton Sold 12,772 Cars In October 2023 - 100,210 Units Of X50 Sold Till Date!
In the midst of a booming Malaysian auto industry, Proton is poised to record its fifth straight year of higher sales. The business effectively sold 12,772 units in October, bringing its year-to-date (YTD) total (which includes sales of both domestic and international products) to 129,604 units. This represents a significant increase of 12.3% over the prior year.
Sales for Proton increased by 4.4% in October over September. In 2023, it is anticipated that the total industry volume (TIV) will have surpassed 70,000 units for the third time. Proton is expected to hold a 20.1% market share overall, while the car sector as a whole has already sold over 645,000 units year to date.
With two months left in 2023, Proton's four models are still leading in a number of market segments. Notably, the Proton X50 is leading its segment with 2,021 units sold in October. Since its introduction in October 2020, it has risen to the top of the B-segment SUV market in the nation, with a stunning 100,210 units sold—the fastest number of SUVs sold in Malaysia history.
The Proton Persona is the third most popular B-segment sedan with 2,041 units sold in October. With 479 sales in October, the Proton X90 is still leading the D-segment SUV market. 3,914 units of this mild hybrid SUV had been sold as of 2023.
Meanwhile the Proton Exora, which is phasing out from the Malaysian market, continues to be the unchallenged leader in C-segment MPV sales. It has sold 196,583 units thus far, and demand is up by 11.5% in 2023. This indicates that many buyers find its mixture of useful features and performance to be desirable.
Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar, noted, "Following a relatively subdued September, automotive sales rebounded strongly in October, making it the second-best sales month of the year. With two full calendar months remaining, the industry is poised to set a new TIV record for the second consecutive year, reflecting both customer demand and market liquidity."
He also added, "Proton has capitalised on these market conditions, achieving a 12.3% increase in sales this year, outpacing TIV growth despite recent challenges."
