Stellantis has a pretty big and ambitious plan in-store for both the Malaysian and ASEAN markets

It is no secret that Stellantis has a pretty ambitious plan in-store for both the Malaysian and ASEAN regional markets. Aside from taking over Peugeot brand sales and distribution in Malaysia, the multi-national automotive giant is also looking to push for more STLA Medium-based EV models into our market.

With Stellantis already planning to introduce three locally-assembled (CKD) Peugeot models – the E-2008 EV SUV, the Landtrek pick-up truck, and the 408 fastback crossover– into our market soon, the firm might also bring in two other STLA Medium-based Peugeot EV models, given that the Silver Lion marque is the only Stellantis-owned brand that is still active here.

Here are two STLA Medium-based Peugeot EVs that Stellantis *MIGHT* bring into our local market soon.

1. Peugeot e-308 EV hatchback

The all-electric Peugeot e-308 is based on the third-gen 308, which underpins the third-gen EMP2 platform – a precursor to the STLA Medium. Coming in both hatchback and five-door wagon body styles, the e-308 is powered by a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor setup rated at 154 HP (115 kW) and 260 NM. Juicing this motor setup is a 54-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, giving the e-308 with a maximum EV range of 400 KM (WLTP).

Thanks to the platform’s 400-volt battery architecture, the e-308 can support DC fast charging at up to 100 kW, which allows the pack to be charged from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes. Meanwhile, its AC charging rate is only capped at 11 kW.

The Peugeot e-308 is set to compete against several EV hatchback models in our market, should Stellantis consider this EV model for our market...

Should Stellantis consider the e-308 for our market, this EV hatchback is poised to go against the likes of the Renault Zoe, MINI Electric, GWM Ora Good Cat, as well as the BYD Dolphin. With the latter Chinese EV hatchback has indeed shown positive reception, thus it is wise for Stellantis to venture into this underrated market space.

2. Peugeot e-3008 EV SUV

While the e-308’s arrival seems like a long shot, we are very certain that the newly-unveiled Peugeot e-3008 EV SUV will be a pretty big hit in Malaysia, given the local market’s appetite for EV SUVs as such.

Based on the third-gen 3008 SUV, the e-3008 is one of the first models to underpin the STLA Medium EV platform with a 400-volt battery architecture. Speaking of battery, the e-3008 has two options, the largest hosting a capacity of 98 kWh, granting a claimed WLTP range of up to 700 KM.

Supporting up to 160 kW of DC fast charging, the e-3008 can be juiced from 20% to 80% in about 35 minutes for the larger 98-kWh unit mentioned. Meanwhile, its AC charging capacity starts at 11 kW, with the 22 kW rate offered as an optional upgrade in its European home market.

Aside from the single FWD motor, the e-3008 also gets a peppier dual-motor AWD setup, with a total system output of 320 PS (240 kW)

On the powertrain front, single- and dual-motor setups are available, with outputs ranging between 230 PS (170 kW) and 320 PS (240 kW). The latter unit allows the e-3008 to accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in just 6.4 seconds.

So, which Peugeot EV models are you looking forward to the most?

Though there are various other models set to underpin the STLA Medium EV platform, we think that these two Peugeot EVs would be a great introduction to the other EV models from Stellantis, perhaps through other brands too (Citroen, DS, Fiat, etc.).

Besides the upcoming e-2008 EV SUV, which one of these two Peugeot EVs listed are you looking forward to see? Hit the comments below with your thoughts, then…
