- Geely Will Establish Research University In Tanjung Malim
According to Bernama, there is a proposal by the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group to build an international university in Proton City, Tanjung Malim. After a detailed discussion with the company's senior management two weeks ago, the state government of Perak says it will provide a site for the project.
“During the discussion, they asked us to provide a location for the development of the university, and at the same time, we have suggested several locations that we feel are suitable. However, no specific period has been set for the construction of this university,” Perak MB Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said.
Saarani stated that the construction of the university was significant, particularly in terms of providing job opportunities to various levels of society, particularly the youth.
“In other words, the opening of this university will make the place a new development centre. So you can imagine all the possibilities,” he added.
The university proposal follows the development plan of DRB-Hicom Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) at Tanjung Malim, which marks the beginning of a high impact major project that will boost the national automotive industry.
It was disclosed that the project would be broken up into four sections: an automotive hub would be located in the first, followed by a park for next-generation vehicles (NxGVs) in the second, related industries in the third, and education in the fourth.
