- Proton S70 Leads 2024 C-Segment Sedan Sales - Over 18,000 Units!
The Malaysian automotive landscape saw a significant shift in 2024 as the Proton S70 emerged as the dominant C-segment sedan. Despite strong competition from established Japanese brands, the model secured its position as the market leader within its first full year.
Based on numbers published by Proton, within its first full year of production and sales, Proton sold 18,880 units of the S70. Not only did it outsold its closest competitor by 8,470 units, demands also remain strong in 2025 with 1,143 units sold in Jan and 1,197 in Feb, maintaining consistent momentum.
A key factor behind the S70’s success is pricing, with the top variant - 1.5T Flagship X - still priced under RM100,000. Besides delivering C-segment dimensions at B-segment price 6 the S70 also boasts strong performance from its 1.5-litre 3-cup turbo petrol heart rated 150 PS and 226 NM, paired as well as the seven-speed DCT automatic box primed with it.
According to Proton, a survey of nearly 200 S70 buyers highlighted the model’s broad appeal. Some customers even admitted to wcross-shopping with Japanese sedans before opting for the S70 due to its standout features and value.
The survey found that 72% of owners are aged 20 to 40, with 51% married with children. Additionally, 39% purchased it as a second car, 37% replaced an existing vehicle, and 20% were first-time buyers.
To sustain sales momentum, Proton is currently running the Buka Lembaran Baharu promotion throughout March, offering up to RM8,000 in cash rebates. The Flagship variant also comes with a complimentary Aerokit worth RM3,130, along with an additional RM2,000 trade-in support.
As competition intensifies with new model launches from Proton and other brands, it remains to be seen whether the S70 can continue its strong sales performance in the months ahead.
