The Hyundai Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour has finally concluded, covering 3,197 KM across five countries in 11 days.

Hyundai has finally concluded the Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour, as the fleet of Ioniq 5 EVs finally arrived at its final destination in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This 11-day trip spanning across five countries saw a fleet of five Ioniq 5 EVs covering a total distance of 3,917 KM, starting all the way back from Singapore to Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and its final destination in Vietnam.

Themed ‘Go Far with Zero Worries’, this cross-country tour saw the Ioniq 5 fleet exceed its initial distance target by 446 KM, with the whole tour aimed at testing out the reliability, eco-friendliness, and long-distance capabilities of this compact EV crossover. Throughout its journey exceeding the 3,000 KM mark, the participants only managed to spend $116 (approximately RM540) per car on charging fees, which Hyundai claims to be approximately two times more cost-efficient in comparison to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle traveling the same distance.

Throughout its ASEAN-spanning journey, the participants made a few pit stops along the way, including a media convoy session in Malaysia featuring the sleek Ioniq 6 EV saloon alongside the Ioniq 5 crossover. Meanwhile, all participants got to experience the Ioniq 5’s practical Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function during a pit stop in Bangkok, Thailand, where the Ioniq 5 EVs were used to power up the outdoor lamps, music performances, mini cinema experiences, and culinary experiences.

Among the five Ioniq 5 EVs in the fleet for this tour, two of them were assembled in Hyundai’s facility in Indonesia, while the remaining three were manufactured in Singapore. Meanwhile, participants for this cross-country EV tour consisted of individuals from the Association of Singapore (AAS), fellow Hyundai Motor Company personnel, as well as several local community influencers from Indonesia and Thailand.

Commenting on this momentous feat, Hyundai Motors ASEAN HQ president Youngtack Lee said, "Hyundai is fueled by an unwavering commitment to innovation and shaping the future of mobility – a commitment that reverberates in every action we take.”

“Our dedication to making electric vehicles more accessible as the definitive clean mobility solution of tomorrow has taken a giant leap forward. Witnessing the tremendous success and excitement generated by the IONIQ 5 ASEAN Tour, we are propelled to intensify our comprehensive innovation aimed at fortifying the EV infrastructure and ecosystem across the region. The journey may have concluded, but the electric excitement has just begun," the president added.

One of the participants from Thailand, Mr. Nithi Thuamprathom, said, "Being part of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 ASEAN tour has exceeded all my expectations! I am convinced that electric vehicles, particularly the IONIQ 5, are the future of transportation. This transformative tour removes my anxiety about EVs capabilities, conclusively proving that EVs not only cover long distances but do so with such style, comfort, and reliability."
