Smart #1 is priced from RM189,000 for the smart #1 Pro, from RM219,000 for the smart #1 Premium, and from RM249,000 for the smart #1 Brabus.
Many electric vehicles are now on Malaysian roads as a result of the government's various incentives for purchasing EVs. According to Bernama, Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) Minister Tengku Zafrul stated that over 9,000 new EVs have been registered in Malaysia in 2023 alone.

Given that only 12,000 EVs have been registered in Malaysia since 2011, the number of new EVs registered this year is certainly impressive. Tengku Zafrul also stated that EVs will serve as a catalyst for the growth of Malaysia's manufacturing industry exports.

The Omoda 5 EV is juiced by a 61-kWh battery pack that grants it with a claimed maximum EV range of 450 KM.

Speaking at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024) early launch, Zafrul emphasized the strong rise in sales of electric vehicles, pointing to a notable 11.6 percent increase in Malaysia's total vehicle sales in the first ten months of 2023, which came to almost 647,000 units.

With 59 EV projects worth RM26.2 billion approved by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) between 2018 and June 2023, Malaysia continues to draw investments in the EV sector. These projects cover the production of parts, charging components, and vehicle assembly.

Zafrul disclosed that national targets have been set by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) in order to accelerate the National Automotive Transition Plan (NETR), which was introduced in August of this year. It is projected that by 2030, twenty percent of Malaysia's yearly sales of new cars will be electric cars; by 2040, that number will rise to fifty percent, and by 2050, to eighty percent.

“There is a lot of potential in the new generation vehicles wherein more components, for example, semiconductor composite, chips component in a typical car today, or even a hybrid car will be around 1,500 chips (needed) in one car. When you look at EV cars, it can go up to at least 3,000 chips in one car and these chips come from the E&E sector,” he added.

It seems that more Malaysian consumers are open to adopting electric vehicles. when Proton and Perodua launch their electric vehicle (EV) products in 2025.
