MG Returns To Malaysia In 2024; 4 Models Planned - Cyberster Included!
CariCarz.com has discovered that SAIC Motor, one of China's top automotive manufacturers and ranked 84th among Fortune 500 companies, has established a base in Malaysia.
SAIC Malaysia plans to redefine the automotive experience in Malaysia starting next year by introducing some of its 16 vehicle brands to the discerning Malaysian consumers.
To get things started, MG, a brand that has become synonymous with innovation and style, will be launched by said Chinese parent company in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024. It would be distributed in Malaysia by SAIC’s subsidiary, MG Malaysia (MGM).
MGM's initial offerings will include four models that combine cutting-edge technology and performance. Two electric vehicles (EV) and two internal combustion engine (ICE) models are amongst the first planned for this diverse line-up.
The MG 4, which will be available in four variants, will be the first model to be launched in Malaysia sometime in Q1. The MG 4 would be positioned as a formidable competitor against other market players such as the Tesla Model 3 and soon-to-be-launched BYD Seal.
Meanwhile the highly anticipated MG Cyberster, which has just begun deliveries in China, will land sometime in Q2. The price of this electric roadster, which is larger than the Mazda MX-5, is expected to be around RM250K.
The introduction of the MG Cyberster in Malaysia would automatically make it MG's flagship or ‘halo’ car, and it’s set to captivate the hearts of local sportscar enthusiasts.
MGM will also introduce the MG HS, a C-segment SUV to compete with the Honda CR-V and Chery Omoda 5. Set to land in Q3, the MG HS, with its sleek silhouette, promises to deliver style, comfort, and performance while carving a niche for itself in the competitive SUV segment.
According to MGM, they plan to end 2024 on a high note by launching the MG 3 in Q4 which would appeal to consumers in the B-segment sedan market. The MG 3 is set to debut globally in Q3 as well.
Around the same time, MGM intends to secure local assembly (CKD) production, a move that will not only boost the brand's local price and presence, but also contribute to the nation's industry development.
MGM has strategically secured 18 of its planned 24-dealer network in preparation for a grand launch. Said network will ensure that MG customers and fans alike throughout Malaysia have easy access to the brand's offerings and services.
MGM would also launch the MG ismart app, which would provide seamless vehicle connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) updates for its vehicle lineup. We’ll have more from MGM as it continues to set up shop, so stay tuned for more updates.
