The Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) fully supports the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry's (MITI) proactive initiative to develop the new Malaysian Standard - Motor Vehicle Aftermarket Smash Repair Requirements (JSM MS).

The JSM MS, which is expected to be officially launched by Jabatan Standard Malaysia (JSM) in early 2024, aims to improve standards and professionalism in motor vehicle smash repair workshops across the country by implementing best industry practices.

PIAM applauds MITI's effort for taking a collaborative approach in developing the JSM MS, which includes key stakeholders such as PIAM, the Ministry of Transport, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd (Management System Certification Department), the Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners' Association, the Malaysian Automotive Association and the Malaysia Takaful Association.

The JSM MS outlines structural, resource, and process requirements for motor vehicle accident repair workshops. It covers a wide range of smash repair workshop activities, from vehicle body repair to refinishing.

PIAM is also looking forward to continue its collaboration other related regulatory bodies and agencies to ensure customer safety and satisfaction, as well as to promote the growth and sustainability of the motor insurance and repair ecosystem.

Furthermore, PIAM remains committed to actively participate in this initiative by closely monitoring regulatory developments, analysing their implications for the motor vehicle accident repair ecosystem, and actively shaping the way forward.
