- Proton e.MAS 7 Leads ASEAN Unity Drive 2025 from Jakarta
Proton’s first electric vehicle (EV), the e.MAS 7, led the convoy at the recent ASEAN Unity Drive 2025 (AUD 2025) flag-off ceremony in Jakarta on April 22, 2025.
The drive is organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), under the purview of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). It stands amongst several key initiatives commissioned as part of Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year.
The event took place at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin, and Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN Sarah Al Bakri Devadason.
The AUD 2025 was flagged off back in March this year and will cover over 9,000 KM across nine ASEAN nations, all the while promoting a shared vision for sustainable development, smart mobility and innovation across the region.
As highlighted previously by MITI Minister Tengku Zafrul, this vision for sustainable mobility is crucial to maintain the region’s competitive edge as the world’s fifth-largest economic bloc - reportedly valued at US$3.5 trillion (approx. RM15.31 trillion).
Proton touts the e.MAS 7 is adeptly built for these long journeys thanks to its advanced safety, connectivity, and range. It is also designed to handle real-world conditions and cross-border travel in and around Southeast Asia.
After leaving Jakarta, the convoy will travel through major ASEAN capitals including Hanoi, Vietnam; Manila, Philippines; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei; Bangkok, Thailand, as well as Singapore. It will stop at each location mentioned to engage with the local communities and partners in promoting EV use and clean mobility efforts.
The convoy will come to an end on the grounds of the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, which takes place next month from May 9 to May 15 at MAEPS, Serdang.
