The Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (Sirim Bhd) subsidiary, Sirim QAS International Sdn Bhd, is running a certification program to support and grow the electric vehicle (EV) industry by ensuring the security and efficiency of charging stations,
It stated that EV charging systems (EVCS) that are reliable and secure are essential for establishing trust and encouraging the general adoption of electric vehicles.

The transition to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable form of transportation, however, raises questions about the efficiency, dependability, and security of these cutting-edge vehicles.

Concerns regarding the safety and validity of Electric Vehicle Charging Systems (EVCS) have been raised by their increasing prevalence. For this reason, policies need to be in place to ensure that Malaysian drivers receive the best possible level of safety and effectiveness from EVCS.

According to Muhammad Kamal Sabran, head of product certification at Sirim QAS, the company has the expertise and resources needed to guarantee the functionality, dependability, and safety of every charging station.
“Through our certification initiative, the EV industry in Malaysia is poised for significant advancement and growth,” he said in a statement. CariCarz_File_Gentari_DC-charger_Bangi_Dec22_-(1).jpg

Comprehensive testing procedures are used in the certification process, and every detail is closely examined to guarantee that safety regulations and performance standards are strictly followed.

Sirim emphasized that the certification covers a wide range of industry participants, including installers, building contractors, car service providers, charging manufacturers, and experts in EVCS maintenance.

This cooperative endeavor represents a dedication to providing EV owners with a safe and dependable charging experience, cultivating a culture of excellence and inspiring trust in regulators, manufacturers, and consumers alike.

“By prioritising safety, reliability and functionality, Malaysia is leading the way toward becoming an environmentally sustainable nation, promoting electric mobility with confidence and integrity,” it added. Gentari-Nik-piece-caricarz-(3).jpg

For the record, Malaysia continues to be an important and significant part of the economy, accounting for 4% of the country's GDP and being the third-biggest automotive market in ASEAN.
As per the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (2021 – 2030), Malaysia has established a goal of having 10,000 public charging stations by 2025. This highlights the necessity of implementing strong protocols to guarantee the utmost safety and effectiveness for electric vehicle drivers.
