Spyshot: Face-lifted Proton X70 Spotted Again – All-New Front Fascia
Our very own Staff Writer Mukhlis Azman caught sigh of this camouflaged prototype Proton X70 late last week whilst travelling through the KL-bound Karah Highway.
We’ve known for sometime now that the Proton X70 is set to undergo a major facelift, perhaps sometime in 2024. Camouflaged prototypes have been spotted undergoing tests out in the wild throughout the year, and we’ve chanced upon sighting one ourselves recently.
These images were snapped by our very Staff Writer Mukhlis Azman whilst on holiday late last week. Mukhlis caught sight of this camouflaged prototype whilst traversing down the KL-bound stretch of the Karak Highway – just after the Genting Sempah tunnel – last Friday in the late afternoon.
Unlike the prototype we reported on prior (top), the latest unit we sighted (below) appears to be very different. Note how the latter has slightly less camouflage at the rear whilst the also sporting a very different front-end.
Compared to a more recent sighting of a camouflaged X70 prototype we reported on, we’re certain this is a totally different unit. This is based on the different front grille design and cover panels, as well as the noticeably lesser camouflage at the rear.
Despite so, we still got a much clearer look at the front-end in this latest sighting, whereby we can see this unit sports new headlight design similar to those primed in the updated 2019MY Geely Boyue Pro. The front grille does however appear to be very different from said Geely.
Given where we spotted this prototype recently, and the difference in exterior design and camouflage scheme covering which, we suspect this may be a dedicated powertrain test-bed.
A closer shows this unit rocking new headlights that feature design similar to the 2019MY Geely Boyue Pro. Also note the very different grille design from said Geely that this unit is primed with.
Nevertheless, this are clear enough indication that the revised X70 model that's likely coming withing the first half (1H) of next year (2024) will debut with a significantly different new face over the current model.
Apart from the aesthetic revisions, we can perhaps expect improvements with the interior too, namely through the tech t packs – we can likely expect the revised X70 to adopt the newer infotainment and digital displays as seen in both the new X90 and S70.
While the taillights appear unchanged, the fully camouglaged rear bumper is yet another signal of perhaps Proton fielding an all-new design for which in the X70's model's upcoming facelift.
We can also likely see no drastic changes mechanically, meaning we can still expect the choice between the 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbo petrol for the lower-end guises, and the 1.8-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol lump for the mid- to high-end guises, both paired with the same 7-speed DCT automatic box.
What other changes would you expect from the revised X70? As usual, share your thoughts in the comments section below, as well as our social media pages…
