The Wuling BinguoEV has launched in Indonesia this week, with said compact EV charting up to 3,000 pre-sale orders in less than a month. The latter perhaps illustrates the appetite for EVs amongst Indonesians car buyers now.

The BinguoEV costs IDR358,000,000 (Approx. RM108,000) in Long Range guise, and IDR408,000,000 (Approx. RM123,000) in its higher-specced Premium Range guise. The BinguoEV's Long Range variant features a 31.9 kWh battery pack granting up to 333 KM in range, whereas the Premium Range gets a slightly larger 37.9 kWh battery pack that grants up to 410 KM range instead.

In terms of size, the Wuling BinguoEV measures 3,950 MM long with a 2,560 MM wheelbase, 1,708 MM wide, and 1,580 MM tall. This gives it a much smaller footprint over the BYD Dolphin - it’s closer in size to the latest DNGA-based Perodua Axia, in fact. Despite its petite nature, it still boasts a rather spacious cabin laced with numerous practical storage compartments.

The BinguoEV's 50 kW (67 HP) e-motor is also furnished with an IP67 battery and housed within a High Strength Steel frame chassis structure. Safety features present include Auto Hold, Electronic Stability Control, ABS and EBD, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ISOFIX childseat anchors, and dual airbags.

Wuling offers three colour choices for BinguoEV, including Milk Tea and Mousse Green, which have brown and white interiors, followed by a Galaxy Blue choice, which has a black and white interior.

Wuling Indonesia is offering a special launch promotion to early buyers that will last until the end of the year. The firm is offering a lifetime warranty on the power battery, drive motor, and motor control unit through said promotion. In addition, buyers also receive a free 7 kWh AC charging device, as well as various accessories (window film, storage box, and carpet).

Given the Wuling BinguoEV's launch price in Indonesia, and availability in right-hand drive (RHD), it makes perfect sense to launch this brand and model in Malaysia, where it could potentially sell for far less than RM100,000 should the mandated minimum RM100,000 EV selling price rule is not in place.

Given the floor price in place, we believe that the Wuling brand and this compact EV model would surely enter Malaysia, but only after the EV minimum sale price of RM100,000 rule is lifted in 2025.

Furthermore, this Wuling brand - not to be confused with GAC-owned commercial vehicles brand Wuling -  is a subsidiary of SAIC. Said group is in the midst of setting up shop in Malaysia starting with its lead MG brand that will launch in 2024.
