- Geely’s Zeekr Set to Enter Singapore in H2 2024 – Malaysia Next?
Zeekr is poised to enter the Singaporean automotive market later in the second half of 2024.
Geely’s premium EV sub-brand, Zeekr, is poised to officially make its landfall in Singapore later this year. As reported by Reuters, this Chinese EV marque will introduce both the Zeekr X SUV crossover and the Zeekr 009 MPV in the island republic’s market, with its deliveries set to take place later in the second half of 2024.
Zeekr X B-segment EV SUV
Starting with the former, the Zeekr X is an all-electric subcompact B-segment crossover that shares the same SEA platform as the smart #1, albeit featuring a slightly bulkier facade compared to the latter. For the Chinese market, this EV SUV is offered with both single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD powertrain options, with the latter rated at up to 469 HP (350 kW).
Battery-wise, all variants of the Zeekr X are juiced by the same 66-kWh NMC battery pack, allowing it for a maximum EV range of up to 560 KM, according to the more lenient CLTC standards. Similar to the #1, the Zeekr X supports both AC 22 kW and DC 150 kW charging rates.
Zeekr 009 EV MPV
Meanwhile, the Zeekr 009 is the marque’s flagship EV MPV model, which also underpins Geely’s SEA platform. Serving as the basis for Volvo’s first MPV model, the EM90, the 009 is powered by a dual-motor AWD setup rated at 536 HP (400 kW), which grants this massive MPV an impressive century sprint time of only 4.5 seconds.
Juiced by either a 116-kWh or 140-kWh battery pack supplied by CATL, the Zeekr 009 boasts a decent maximum CLTC range of up to 822 KM.
For the Singaporean market, The Strait Times reported that Zeekr has appointed Premium Automobiles, which is the current official distributor of Audi cars in the city-state. The firm is also poised to set up its first showroom in the first half of 2024, with its official launch and product deliveries set to commence later in the latter half of the year.
MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Abdul Aziz has visited Zeekr's production facility last year
With Zeekr now officially coming to our southern neighbour market, it begs the question of whether this Geely-owned EV marque will set shop in our local market. Prior to this, we’ve previously reported that the brand might arrive as the second Geely-owned EV brand in our market, following the official visit of Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) YB Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Abdul Aziz to the Geely Zeekr Hangzhou Bay Smart Plant in Ningbo City, China.
From that visit, however, it appears that both Zeekr and Geely will collaborate with national automaker Proton to help develop P1’s new EV technology and ecosystem here in Malaysia, instead of establishing itself as the next Geely-owned EV marque after smart (PRO-NET). But with the recent development of Zeekr’s establishment in Singapore, this might as well change Geely’s plan for our local market.
