- Stellantis’ STLA Large Platform Revealed – Up to 800 KM EV Range
Stellantis’ new STLA Large Platform is set to be used by eight new models, boasting a maximum EV range of up to 800 KM.
It is no secret that Stellantis has a pretty ambitious plan for its EV models, with the multinational firm now revealing its latest EV platform, dubbed the STLA Large Platform. Part of the firm’s next-gen STLA EV platform series, the STLA Large supports both EV and ICE-powered cars, with Stellantis poised to use them on eight upcoming models.
For now, the STLA Large will be offered with a 400-volt battery architecture, with an 800-volt one set to arrive at a later date. Set to be used by large cars and SUVs, the STLA Large will be available with battery packs with capacities ranging from 85 to 118-kWh, allowing for a maximum EV range of up to 800 KM.
Capable of supporting both single- and dual-motor setups, Stellantis claims that any cars underpinning the STLA Large will have the potential to achieve a stellar 0-100 KM/H sprint time as low as two seconds. The firm, however, didn’t detail the maximum power output this platform can support.
Aside from BEVs, the STLA Large platform can also be used on pure-ICE and hybrid cars
Besides BEVs, the STLA Large can also be used by hybrids or even pure-ICE cars, making it a very versatile platform to work with. Aside from incorporating the front (FWD), rear (RWD), or all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, this platform can also support drivetrain enhancements like limited-slip differentials (LSD) or wheel-end disconnects.
In terms of dimension, the STLA Large can support a wheelbase ranging from 2,870 MM to 3,075 MM. Together with its adjustable ride height from 140 MM to 288 MM, plus a maximum tyre clearance of 858 MM, we can expect this platform to be used by large cars like off-road-ready SUVs, full-size pick-up trucks, and perhaps even sedans too.
“Our goals for our STLA platforms are ambitious, but this is what our customers need from us today,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.
“Creating a family of vehicles from a well-engineered set of components that is flexible enough to cover multiple vehicle types and propulsions, overperforming any of our current products, will address each of our iconic brands’ customers.”
Set to be used by eight new models, the new STLA Large Platform will make its debut on the next-gen Dodge Charger and the Jeep Wagoneer S. As for the remaining six models, Stellantis has remained tight-lipped about them, though the firm said brands like Maserati, Chrysler, and Alfa Romeo will also use of this stellar platform.
