2023 saw BMW Group Malaysia's sales and deliveries largely driven by SUVs and EVs. In total, the group saw 15,012 units shifted.

At the preview opening of the new Auto Bavaria Balakong outlet held earlier today, which also doubled up with the preview of the face-lifted and locally assembled (CKD) BMW X5 PHEV, BMW Group Malaysia also held a press briefing detailing its 2023 sales performance.

2023 proved to be yet another stellar year as the group saw all its brands chart 3.8% growth in deliveries over the previous year, totalling at 15,012 units combined.

The core BMW marque did see a slight 1.3% drop from 2022 with 11,699 units delivered in 2023, whilst MINI marked the highest growth at 41.9% with 1,750 units delivered. BMW Motorrad motorcycles, on the other hand, also charted a healthy 13.4% growth with 1,563 units delivered.

BMW i EV models like the i4 (left) and iX (right) saw over 3,600 units delivered in 2023, but the latter EV SUV leads things with over 1,100 units shifted.

BMW Group Malaysia notes much of its 2023 sales were charged up – literally – by its range of electric vehicles (EVs). Over 3,600 BMW i EV models were delivered ins 2023 led by the iX EV SUV that charted over 1,100 units delivered. The i7 flagship EV saloon, on the other hand, saw 600 units delivered.

Unsurprisingly, the X-series SUVs remain the core driver for BMW Group Malaysia’s 2023 sales as over 4,000 units of which were delivered throughout said year. Second to which is the updated 3 Series saloon, and said model contributed around 2,600 deliveries in total.

BMW continues to see its core X-series SUV models like the X5 (left) and its signature 3 Series saloon (right) stand as its bread and butter. In 2023, over 4,000 X-series SUVs and around 2,600 3 Series saloons were sold in Malaysia.

“The acceptance of these vehicles allowed us to achieve the title of the number one premium electric vehicles provider in Malaysia, an achievement that we do not take lightly as it underscores our goal to shape, lead, and future-proof the Malaysian automotive landscape in the years to come,” said Pierre Jalady, vice president, head of MINI region Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle-East, Africa.

Other noteworthy figures shared by the group include seeing over 500 BMW M models (M2, M3, and M4) delivered, as well as over 40% growth in BMW and MINI Easy Drive Financing scheme adoption, the latter now funding over 5,000 vehicles in Malaysia too.
