- BYD Seal 06 PHEV Revealed
The new BYD Seal 06 has been revealed through documents filed with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently.
The model is a plug-in hybrid sedan that belongs to the new Seal family within BYD's Ocean series. Originally a standalone product, the Seal line has expanded to include the Seal EV, Seal DM-i PHEV, and Seal U (also known as the Song Plus), with the Seal 06 being the latest addition.
The Seal 06 is a sedan with dimensions measuring 4,830 MM long with a 2,790 MM wheelbase, 1,875 MM wide, and 1,495 MM tall. Depending on variant and drivetrain, it weighs between 1,660 KG and 1,775 KG.
From the leaked images, the Seal 06’s design language marks a departure from the signature "boomerang headlights" found in other Seal models. Instead, it adopts a new "double L" shape headlights. At the rear, the model resembles the BYD Seal DM-i, albeit with a shorter wheelbase.
Built on the DM-i hybrid underpinnings, the Seal 06 will be available in two drivetrain variants powered by either a 120 KW or a 160 KW electric motors mated to a in-house developed 1.5-liter engine with a claimed 74 kW (101 HP) peak output. Top speed, on the other hand, is reportedly capped at 180 KM/H.
According to CarNewsChina, the Seal 06 will feature the BYD Blade battery with two capacity choices - 10 kWh or 16 kWh. These promises claimed CLTC-rated ranges of up to 60 KM and 90 KM respectively.
An all-electric version of the Seal 06 is expected to be introduced later in the year.
