To commemorate the Chinese New Year, the Works Ministry will temporarily reduce the speed limit on all federal roads nationwide from 90 kilometres per hour (km/h) to 80 km/h beginning Thursday and lasting until February 13.

The ministry said in a statement that the temporary reduction in speed limit is one of the government's safety and monitoring measures to improve safety and reduce the risk of road accidents, which are common during the holiday season.

According to the statement, the ministry will also conduct Integrated Operations and Road Safety Campaigns during the 2024 National Chinese New Year celebrations. 2533744.jpg

Non-critical road construction and maintenance work will be halted, with the exception of emergency work, to avoid disrupting traffic flow during the period.

"This is in line with the spirit and aspiration of the MyJalan Programme launched by KKR for all parties to jointly ensure safety and driving comfort, especially on federal roads," it said.
