The second-gen Maserati GranCabrio brings the same 524 HP-rated V6 fun in topless convertible form.

After more than a year since the new GranTurismo broke cover, Maserati has finally revealed its topless convertible counterpart, the GranCabrio. For the second generation, this 2+2 convertible is also offered with Maserati’s signature Nettuno V6 engine, just like its coupe twin, while the fully electric Folgore variant is set to arrive in the near future.

On the visual front, the second-gen GranCabrio expectedly looks similar to the GranTurismo, with the obvious difference being its convertible roof style. Offered exclusively with a fabric soft-top cabrio roof, Maserati claims it can be retracted in just 14 seconds at driving speeds of up to 50 KM/H.

Besides faster deployment speed, Maserati has also designed the soft-top with better thermal and sound insulation, which it claims can rival any hard-top convertibles out there. Elsewhere, customers can opt for five distinct colours for the fabric material, namely black, marine blue, titan grey, greige, and garnet.

Special for the top-spec GranCabrio Trofeo model are several exterior styling items, including the sportier front and rear bumpers with tons of carbon fibre accents and garnish, as well as the stylish multi-spoke wheels the car rides on.

Under the fabric roof lies a pretty decent cabin, primed with a slew of modern tech equipment and comfort amenities. Key tech highlights include a massive 12.3-inch central infotainment display, a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 8.8-inch control panel for the A/C. Customers can also opt to upgrade its standard 13-speaker Sonus Faber sound system to an optional 16-speaker one with 1,060-watt power.

Comfort-wise, the two front seats are equipped with a standard neck warmer to provide better comfort for passengers when driving in open-top mode. Furthermore, there is also an optional wind stopper that reduces wind noise and intensity in the cabin, although this concoction only works in a two-seater layout.

The top-spec GranCabrio Trofeo gets the same Nettuno V6 mill as the GranTurismo and MC20.

As we mentioned earlier, the top-spec GranCabrio Trofeo is offered with Maserati’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 mill, delivering 542 HP and 650 NM to its rear wheels (RWD) via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Due to the 100 KG weight penalty garnered by the soft-top roof, the GranCabrio’s performance is slightly impacted, with its century sprint time reading at 3.6 seconds and a V-Max of 316 KM/H.

Besides the manic Trofeo variant, the new GranCabrio is also offered in a de-tuned version, with its power figure capped at 483 HP and 600 NM. As for the all-electric version, Maserati has confirmed that the GranCabrio Folgore will come later in the near future, possibly getting the same tri-motor setup as the GranTurismo Folgore, producing up to 751 HP.

Prices for the all-new Maserati GranCabrio are set to be announced sometime in the coming months. As per any convertible variants of sportscars or grand tourers, it is more than safe to presume that the GranCabrio would cost more than its fixed-roof counterpart.
