Late last year, we reported on Charge+, a Singapore-based charge point operator (CPO) that was aggressively looking into market expansion in Southeast Asia. It even planned on establishing 30,000 charging stations spanning approximately 5,000 kilometres.

As logic dictates, the first market for Charge+ entered was Malaysia, where it established a cross-border roaming agreement with TNB, the operators of the Electron network of chargers. In turn, this allow users in both Malaysia and Singapore to access their charging networks via the Charge+ or Go To-U app.

In Dec 2023, Charge+ installed their first DC charger at Skudai RnR Southbound, providing users with access to a 120 kW two-gun DCFC at a promotional rate of RM0.90/minute.

Yesterday, Charge+ launched yet another 120 kW two-nozzle CCS2 DCFC station at Capri by Fraser in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. This comes just three months after establishing the Skudai DCFC.

This station, conveniently located on the ground floor of the building, is capable of serving two EVs at the same time thanks to a dynamic power shift of 60 kW per nozzle.

Bear in mind that the charging rate at this station will be RM1.20/minute - only Skudai RnR benefits from the low promotion rate mentioned. Although the rate is not based on the more favourable kWh-based calculation, it is one of the lowest options in the market right now. The rate, however, would be converted to a kWh-based calculation once Energy Commission (ST) licence is obtained.

According to their app, the DCFC station is still closed to the public due to licensing approval from the Energy Commission (ST), which we hope will come soon.

Moving forward, Charge+ also announced plans to install more EV charging stations along the North-South Highway network. The firm’s upcoming series of chargers scheduled for installation will be located at Yong Peng, Johor and Ayer Keroh, Melaka.

Furthermore, Charge+ plans to expand its roaming agreements with various CPOs in Malaysia in order to meet its EV charger growth targets.
