- GWM Tank 400 Hi4-T Updated With 2.0T Miller Cycle Powerplant
The 2024 GWM Tank 400 Hi4-T has been unveiled in China, with a brand-new Miller cycle engine and a sophisticated vehicle-machine system comparable to the Tank 500 Hi4-T.
The primary enhancement is the introduction of the new 2.0-litre turbocharged E20NB hybrid engine, which replaces the earlier E20NA. The Tank 400 Hi4-T, which first debuted in 2023, is available in both PHEV and ICE configurations, both featuring this new 2.0T E20NB engine.
This cutting-edge engine incorporates the Miller Cycle, which improves thermal efficiency. Although the new powerplant maintains the same maximum power as its predecessor, fuel efficiency has improved to 8.8 litres/100 KM from 9.52 litres/100 KM.
The E20NB engine paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, as well as a front-mounted electric motor producing 163 HP and 400 NM. The combined output of this hybrid arrangement is 408 HP and 750 NM.
The Tank 400 Hi4-T also features a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) system that includes a 37.1 kWh battery pack which is capable of both powering the wheels as well as generating electricity.
This premium off-roader is designed as a body-on-frame SUV which sits 4,985 MM long with a 2,850 MM wheelbase, 1,960 MM wide, and 1,900 MM tall.
Visually, the 2024 Tank 400 Hi4-T keeps its appearance and is available in both city and off-road configurations. The off-road edition is priced slightly cheaper at RMB285,800 (RM187,000) than the city version at RMB289,800 (RM190,000).
The off-road variant comes with BorgWarner's Electronic Shift On-the-Fly (ESOF) all-wheel-drive (AWD) technology, which improves off-road performance. The Tank 400 Hi4-T also has an excellent approach and departure angles of 33-degrees and 30-degrees respectively, with a minimum ground clearance of 224 MM and a wading depth of up to 800 MM.
Inside, this large SUV is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display (HUD) and a 16.2-inch infotainment screen. Furthermore, the 2024 Tank 400 Hi4-T has been updated with the latest V1.4 human-machine interface which will enable Huawei HiCar, ICCOA, and DLNA connectivity. It also boasts traffic signal timing function, HUD off-road capability and navigation advancements, along with a four-tone speech recognition functionality.
Before you get too enthusiastic, GWM Malaysia has no plans to introduce the Tank 400 Hi4-T in a right-hand-drive (RHD) configuration just yet. However, we will very soon see an equally exciting and hopefully affordable smaller Tank 300 model, which has previewed earlier this year with a third quarter (Q3) launch planned.
