To ease traffic congestion, a section of Jalan Sungai Long close to Taman Rakan in Kajang, Selangor, will be renovated. The primary developer with an ongoing development project in Kajang and the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) are working together on the upgrading work.

The current route from Taman Rakan to the Grand Saga Expressway will be widened from a two-lane dual carriageway to a three-lane configuration, according to MPKj Engineering Department director Fadilah Razalli.

“We have engaged with the developer and construction is expected to begin by year-end and will last six to 12 months.”

She also mentioned that MPKj had received a traffic impact assessment report from an appointed consultant regarding long-term planning to reduce congestion in Sungai Long.

One of the proposals is to construct a ramp from Jalan Sungai Long that connects to the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK Highway) directly. Efforts are being made to raise the estimated RM30 million needed for the proposed ramp.

The majority of drivers travel to Jalan Balakong, so with the ramp, traffic from Sungai Long can disperse directly onto the highway, according to Fadilah. The infrastructure trust account that we have established allows the five or six developers that work in the Sungai Long area to make contributions.

"Once the amount has been raised, that is when we will build the ramp," she stated. 2613052.jpg

Separately, MPKj President Nazli Md Taib stated that the local council was considering installing electric vehicle charging stations within the municipality.

“MPKj has received numerous proposals from private companies to instal charging stations,” he said after the March full board meeting yesterday.

According to him, the council was still considering the idea and would put it into action the following year if approved. Nazli stated that MPKj was eager to assist in the restoration of the 2ha area at the summit of Broga Hill, which was damaged by fire earlier this month.
