The new Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread debuts in Thailand as the more rugged GR-badged pick-up truck.

Compared to other ASEAN markets, it appears that Thailand always gets the better end of the stick when it comes to pick-up trucks. Adding to the long list of pick-up trucks available in the Kingdom market is the new, rugged Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread, which is essentially the more rugged and wide-body version of the existing Hilux GR Sport model.

The Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread is noticeably more rugged and stylish compared to the standard Hilu GR Sport, thanks to its wide body kit and beefy all-terrain tyres.

This rugged pick-up truck bears a close resemblance to the Australian Hilux GR Sport, which comes standard with a more aggressive front bumper and, as its name suggests, a wider body kit with flared-out fenders. Said body kit serves more than the aesthetic purpose, as it adds 140 MM to the front track while the rear is up by 155 MM, enabling this pick-up truck to ride on a set of beefy 265/65 BF Goodrich AT tyres shodded in 17-inch wheels.

As a result, the Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread now measures 5,320 MM long, 2,020 MM wide, 1,880 MM tall, and has a wheelbase of 3,085 MM.

Other mechanical changes present in the Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread include the new monotube dampers, a larger front stabiliser bar, beefier front brakes, as well as some additional welding points on the chassis.

Besides the cosmetics and mechanical upgrades, this rugged GR-badged Hilux hides the same turbodiesel engine as other Hilux models under its hood, albeit with a slightly different tune. This 2.8-litre 4-cyl 1GD-FTV turbodiesel mill has now been tuned to deliver 221 HP and 550 NM, which is identical to the Hilux GR Sport we got here in Malaysia.

As per any GR Sport model, the Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread gets a slew of GR-specific parts in the cabin.

On board, the Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread gets some new equipment, which includes the larger 10.25-inch central infotainment unit that now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Aside from that, other key pieces of equipment present here are the wireless charging pad, dedicated USB ports for the rear passengers, dual-zone climate control, six speakers, Toyota T-Connect telematics, a 360-degree camera view, and a slew of GR-badged parts like the steering wheel and the front seats.

The all-new Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread is now available for purchase in the Thai market. Priced at THB 1.499 million (RM196,608), this rugged pick-up truck is significantly pricier than the previous version of the Hilux GR Sport, which currently retails at THB 904,000 (RM118,568).

As of now, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has not mentioned any plans to offer this rugged Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread for our market. Regardless of that, we’d reckon this rugged pick-up truck would fare better than the ‘standard’ Hilux GR Sport available here, which currently retails for RM169,080.
