- Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Hinted For Malaysia, Arriving In Q3
Naza Eastern Motors looks set to expand its line-up this year with the Suzuki Jimny 5-door!
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is set to arrive in Malaysia circa the third quarter (Q3) of this year, at least according to Naza Automotive Group CEO Mohd Rizal Jailan. The exec hinted said model’s arrival in a recent interview with local daily NST published earlier this week.
To be precise, Rizal said “a totally new Jimny will be introduced by the third quarter of this year.” This hint came right after the exec noted the recent introduction of yet another pair of special edition versions of the Suzuki Jimny 3-door model through subsidiary Naza Eastern Motors - official importers and distributors of the Suzuki cars brand in Malaysia.
The Jimny 5-door was hinted as "a totally new Jimny" by Naza Automotive Group CEO Mohd Rizal Jailan in a recent interview with NST earlier this week.
Putting aside any other special versions like the recently launched Rainforest Edition and Black Edition duo noted, this only leaves the Jimny 5-door as the sole variant missing from the local Suzuki cars line-up offered by distributors Naza Eastern Motors.
As a refresher, the longer-wheelbased and extra-doored version of the Jimny was first introduced globally by Suzuki in India – where it is made – back in June 2023. Apart from India, the model was destined to go on sale on other key markets in the Asia-Oceania region.
Aptly, this is the longer-wheelbased and extra-doored version of the Suzuki Jimny many are familiar with. It first debuted in India - where it is also made - back in June 2023.
More recently, the Jimny 5-door made its regional ASEAN debut in Indonesia back in Feb this year. The model is now on sale in said republic across the Straits of Malacca where it sees five variants – AT and MT options included – available priced from IDR462 million (approx. RM139,050).
The Malaysia-bound Jimny 5-door is expected to mirror what’s offered in the neighbouring republic. Effectively, the 5-door model shares the shares the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl naturally aspirated petrol mill as found in the 3-door model, which outputs 103 PS and 134 NM.
Indonesia also sees both the 3-door and 5-door Jimny offered with the choice between a 5-speed manual (MT) or 4-speed automatic (AT) transmission. Both are also primed with the Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4WD system.
The increased space should see this 5-door version stand as a more practical choice over its 3-door twin.
However, given how Naza Eastern Motors offers the Jimny 3-door exclusively with the 4-speed AT box mentioned, expect the incoming Jimny 5-door model for Malaysia to be offered in similar fashion - sans the 5-speed MT choice.
While it is too early to speculate the price of the Jimny 5-door in Malaysia, it is worth noting that the model commands a 5% higher starting price figure over the standard 3-door model in neighbouring Indonesia.
For reference, the standard Jimny 3-door sans accessories retails from RM174,900 locally.
Well, what do you folks reckon then? Excited to see this version of the Jimny coming into our market soon? Or do you reckon a certain Chinese-made alternative has a stronger appeal here? As usual, share your take on things in the comments below, as well as our social media pages…
