New Geely Panda Mini EV Go Kart Edition Wants To Be A Hot Hatch Badly
Chinese automaker Geely just announced a racy new Go Kart Edition special of its Panda Mini EV earlier this week.
Chinese automaker Geely offers urban dwellers in its home market of China with a micro electric vehicle (EV) it christened as the Panda Mini EV. Siting 3,065 MM long with a 2,015 MM wheelbase, 1,522 MM wide, and 1,600 MM, this micro-EV is in fact smaller than the Perodua Axia 1.0 MT.
Despite its petite size and seemingly cute or adorable looks, it didn’t stop Geely from giving it a racy twist through its latest special. Called the 'Go Kart Edition', the factory-fitted modifications here truly exudes strong tuner car vibes – a la Fast and The Furious.
The highlights of the new special edition include a roof-mounted wing, striking pink livery, redesigned front bumper with larger intakes and a pronounced splitter, the hood gaining a set of tiny fins, deeper side skirts, faux side gills, and 14-inch wheels tucked under fender extensions.
Altogether, these sporty additions resulted in the Panda Mini EV Go Kart Edition gaining 85 MM in length, 18 MM in width, and 85 MM in height. Sadly, that’s as far as the sporty changes go – the rest remains untouched from the stock version.
Marketing visuals of the Geely Panda Mini EV Go Kart Edition that have circulated on both the global and Chinese web.
Striking additions sees a full aerokit complete with roof-mounted GT-style rear spoiler, distinct pink livery, and more. No interior images were released, but this mico-EV's innards are reportedly unchanged from the standard version.
This sees the Panda Mini EV Go Kart Edition retain the stock model’s cabin, decked out in salmon-hued plastics combined with dashes of white in the seat upholstery, 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and 9.2-inch-wide digital instrument panel.
Worse still is the fact that all these sporty mods aren’t matched with any performance upgrade to this micro-EV’s powertrain. It continues to harness a single e-motor setup outputting 40 HP and 110 NM, all delivered through either selectable drive modes available – normal or sport.
With that, it’s assumed that Geely retained the same 17.03 kWh battery pack from the stock model in the Panda Mini EV Go Kart Edition pictured, which promises up to 200 KM range. However, that take figure with a pinch of salt as it is rated through the CLTC standards.
Price and availability are set to be announced later, though it’s fairly certain this special will be reserved for Chinese customers. Also, the Go Kart Edition of the Geely Panda Mini EV will likely cost more than the standard model’s ceiling price of RMB56,900 (approx. RM37,492).
