Renowned automotive engineer Adrian Newey is set to leave Red Bull ahead of the 2025 F1 season.

Renowned automotive engineer and designer Adrian Newey is poised to vacate his position as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the Red Bull Advanced Technologies. The 65-year-old Brit joined the outfit back in 2006, where his 19-year stint helped the energy drink’s Formula One (F1) squad clinch seven F1 World Drivers’ Championships (WDC), six constructors’ titles, as well as 117 victories.

Prior to his appointment with Red Bull, Newey already made his mark in the F1 world during his time with several other household F1 outfits like McLaren and Williams, where the Brit also helped both teams win several drivers’ and constructors’ titles.

Ahead of his departure, Newey will keep working with the Milton Keynes-based outfit for Red Bull’s inaugural hypercar project, cordially known as the RB17. This upcoming hypercar is poised to make its debut at the upcoming 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed later in July. While working on the new hypercar, Newey would step back from his duties with the F1 outfit.

Throughout his stint with Red Bull, Newey has worked with several multiple world champions like Sebastian Vettel (left) and Max Verstappen (right).

Since joining Red Bull, Newey has had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest drivers to grace the F1 sport, which includes four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel as well as three-time and current F1 champion Max Verstappen. The latter secured his last world championship last season, thanks to the superb RB19 designed by Newey, which is also touted as the most dominant in F1 history, winning 21 out of the 22 races.

“It’s been a great honour to have played a key role in Red Bull's F1 success. I feel now is an opportune moment to hand that baton over to others and to seek new challenges for myself," said Newey in Red Bull’s official statement.

Meanwhile, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said, "When Adrian joined Red Bull, he was already a superstar designer. Two decades later, he leaves as a true legend."

While Newey’s departure from Red Bull has been officially confirmed, it remains to be seen where he will end up for the 2025 F1 season onwards, with both Ferrari and Aston Martin reportedly in pole positions to get the service from the decorated automotive designer.
