Gentari Electrifies Lazada’s Last Mile Delivery Fleet With Blueshark eBikes
Gentari’s Green Mobility arm is expanding its efforts to drive green mobility adoption by introducing a hassle-free, long-term electric vehicle (EV) leasing solution for commercial fleet operators as part of its Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) offerings. This initiative kicks off with online shopping giant, Lazada.
The collaboration will see Lazada pilot test the electrification of its logistics operations with the introduction of 25 eBikes from Blueshark for last-mile delivery. This initial fleet would operate from Lazada's Subang Hub and provide deliveries to the surrounding area.
The VaaS offering from Gentari is not new, as they have previously specialised in such services, especially in India, and in electrifying their parent company’s internal fleet of vehicles, having delivered over 3,400 vehicles. Gentari is also heavily focused on providing charging connectivity every 100KM across the nation to bolster range confidence.
The event was officiated by the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, at Gentari’s X-Park Sunway Serene Charging station.
In his speech, Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy CEO of Gentari and CEO of Gentari Green Mobility, noted that Malaysia has one of the highest rates of vehicle ownership among East Asian countries, which significantly contributes to carbon emissions. He emphasised that the introduction of electric two-wheelers would help businesses like Lazada transition to EVs.
Shah also mentioned that Gentari’s focus is on making commercial fleets more sustainable and driving the transition across various societal and economic levels, particularly within the vital last-mile delivery sector. This aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap and Bursa Malaysia’s ESG reporting mandate.
Meanwhile, Venkat Shankar, Chief Logistics Officer of Lazada Malaysia, stated that this partnership underscores Lazada’s dedication to ESG principles and accelerates its journey towards a greener future.
Tengku Zafrul in his address, encourages more companies to actively contribute to the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. He highlighted the Gentari-Lazada collaboration as a great example of industry convergence to promote electric and green mobility, facilitating the nation’s transition to sustainable transportation.
He also promoted the fleet leasing model, which complements MITI’s Electric Motorcycle Use Promotion Scheme (MARiiCas), championed by the Malaysia Automotive Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii). Separately when questioned on Malaysia Semiconductors Strategy, Zafrul echoed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's stand on Malaysia championing being neutral non-aligned hub free from any sanctions and tariffs.
Gentari, which is set to become Asia Pacific’s most valued clean energy solutions partner, currently operates the largest network of licensed EV charging stations in Malaysia, with over 400 charging points across 105 locations, including 120 DCFC fast chargers.
