- Nissan Kicks e-Power Teased Ahead of MAS 2024 Debut
Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) is slated to unveil the Nissan Kicks e-Power at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024.
The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024) is right around the corner, and local Nissan vanguard Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has teased its upcoming lineup for the motor show. Besides the usual suspects like the Nissan Serena J Impul, the Nissan Navara pick-up truck, and the Nissan Almera Kuro Edition launched earlier this year, the teaser poster also features a not-very-well-disguised model.
Nissan Kicks e-Power hybrid
Said model appears to be the first-gen Nissan Kicks e-Power, the series-parallel hybrid (HEV) version of Nissan’s B-segment SUV crossover. Debuted globally back in 2020, the Kicks e-Power features a 1.2-litre 3-cyl petrol engine rated at 78 HP and 103 NM that serves solely as a generator for its single electric motor setup.
With a total system output of 127 HP and 260 NM, this hybrid setup also features a small 1.57-kWh battery pack, which temporarily stores any energy supplied by the engine or gained from regenerative braking.

Second-gen 2025 Nissan Kicks debuted in the US earlier this year.
While the Nissan Kicks e-Power's arrival into our market as yet another B-segment SUV crossover contender to the likes of the Honda HR-V and Proton X50 is something worth rejoicing about, it is important to remind you that this is not exactly a new-new model. This is because the Kicks recently got a second-gen redux in the US market earlier this year, thus leading us to believe that ETCM might just use the Kicks hybrid to preview Nissan’s proprietary e-Power HEV setup.

As things stand, ETCM has no model in its lineup that features the latest version of Nissan’s e-Power HEV setup, with the only partially-electrified model in its lineup being the C27-gen Nissan Serena S-Hybrid, which harnesses a 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system. Meanwhile, the new C28-gen Serena comes with an e-Power hybrid variant that features a 1.4-litre 3-cyl petrol mill that generates juice for its single electric motor rated at 161 HP and 315 NM.
C27 Nissan Serena J Impul
With the C28 Serena making its global debut back in 2022, we’d reckon it is timely for ETCM to replace the current C27-gen Serena S-Hybrid with this new, proper hybrid MPV model, although we suspect it won’t happen at this upcoming motor show. This leads us to believe that the Serena J Impul that will be showcased at the show will be ETCM’s last hurrah for the C27-gen Serena model before the arrival of the newer and fancier C28 Serena e-Power hybrid MPV.
