Renowned Italian supercars marque Ferrari recently inaugurated a brand new ‘E-Building’ production facility at its spiritual home base of Maranello, Italy.

With over €200 million (RM 1.006 Billion) invested into its build, the facility will serve to improve manufacturing flexibility and reduce the time needed to create and launch new models rather than increasing the output. Critically, this is where Ferrari’s first electric vehicle (EV) will be built.

During the plant's opening late last week, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna highlighted the benefits of the new facility.  "This building will allow us to shorten time to market or product development time," Vigna said, noting that these processes sometimes overlap on current assembly lines.

The new 42,500 square meter facility complements Ferrari's existing site in Maranello, adding a car assembly line.  This increases Ferrari's overall theoretical output capacity to around 20,000 cars per year, up from less than 14,000 delivered in 2023.

Vigna also emphasised Ferrari's focus on value rather than volume. "We want to grow the company, but not by increasing volumes. It's about making more money per car," he said.

Personalisation is key to this strategy, allowing customers to tailor their vehicles to their tastes, both inside and out. "We want to have more tools, more technology, and more flexibility to accommodate our clients' need for personalization," Vigna added.

The new plant will also produce key components for electric vehicles, including axles, motors, and battery assemblies. However, it will continue to produce hybrid and traditional combustion-engine models, reflecting Ferrari's strategy to offer a mix of powertrain options to cater to different customer preferences.

Ferrari's new plant will enable the company to reorganise and reallocate production activities more efficiently across its facilities in Maranello, enhancing its ability to quickly adapt to production needs.  The plant is set to roll out its first cars in January of next year, with series production of Ferrari's first EV starting in January 2026.

The electric supercar is expected to cost more than €500,000 (approx. RM2,519,539), with a second EV model already in development, according to a source familiar with the matter. KR
